In the Eye of the Storm
By Noelle Mills
Our home state of Louisiana has recently endured terrible tragedy with the enormous amount of flooding we have seen. From Welsh all the way to the outer parts of Baton Rouge, many residents have lost everything they have in these tragic floods. Our city of Lake Charles has thankfully been spared, but that doesn’t mean our state and its residents haven’t been heavy on our hearts and minds.
When we experienced the drunk driver crash that destroyed our salon, the thing that touched us most was the overwhelming outpour of support, mostly from people we didn’t know. We knew that this was our opportunity to do the same. Our Master Stylist, Lensi, partnered with a local church body to collect items needed to donate to individuals staying in many of the local shelters. Once arriving with supplies in hand, our goal was to distribute the needed items and also offer complimentary haircuts to anyone in need.
We were overwhelmed yet again by how generous our community was in donating. We were able to pack a large trailer FULL of supplies to distribute in the greater Baton Rouge area. The day itself was incredibly touching and very somber. However, the flood victim’s spirits were high, and their outlook was positive. Louisiana is a resilient state, and if anything, these floodwaters have only increased our spirit of unity and state pride. We saw men, women, young and old all coming together to lend a helping hand to our brothers and sisters in need.
We are continuing to collect items throughout this month, and have plans to make another trip to distribute once all of the needed items have come in!

God has shown you his grace in many different ways. So be good servants and use whatever gift he has given you in a way that will best serve each other.
